What Are the Best Ways to Get Your Event Seen?
Why is event promotion important? Properly promoting, marketing and advertising your event will give you a better chance of selling out your tickets and making the event a success.
It can be difficult to know how to advertise an event and when to start advertising an event.
“A good rule of thumb is to start promoting an event 4-8 weeks in advance. Some organizers, on the other hand, try to create a certain appeal and “surprise factor” by doing no promotion at all until 24 hours before the event. Depending on the target group, there are several promotion methods that should be considered carefully. “– Silvio Müller, Event Organiser and Publisher of PARTYSAN Berlin
You need to consider what you should be doing, what to say when advertising an event – and which channels or platforms are going to get you the most attention.
If you’re new to promoting events, then surprise or short-term promotion is not likely to be successful – you need to have built a reputation and following for your brand before you can try these types of tactics.
Even if you are an established brand, these tactics may still not be appropriate – it depends on your audience and what they expect from you.
The More Your Event is Seen, The Better it Is for All Involved
To make your event more successful, you should be doing physical (flyers, posters, etc) and online marketing (social media, emails, newsletters, websites, Apps, etc)
How you go about your event planning and promotion will depend on the type of event you’re holding, the time of year, location and target audience.
Once you know who you’re aiming at, and where you’re holding it – you can focus your marketing on platforms that will connect with your audience.
Social Media is a great way of connecting with a lot of people – Instagram lets you showcase images and videos, Facebook is great for providing more detailed information, and Twitter lets you share short news updates. YouTube is another useful platform if you’ve got promotional videos or footage from your previous events.
What You Need to Do to Succeed at Event Marketing
Firstly, you need a budget – you can’t rely on word of mouth referrals and recommendations. You should be asking your venue and Artists to promote your event, but you’ve still got to do your own promotion as well.
When it comes to physical marketing, you need to create graphics that are going to stand out and get people’s attention – flyers and posters can be shared round the local area and put up in the venue, but they’re going to be competing with other events that are happening. You need to make sure that your promotional material has relevant information for your event – the time and date, location, type of event, any dress code, where to get the tickets and what they cost, and who will be attending.
Event promotion and advertising on social media requires stunning graphics, interesting content and for you to interact with your visitors. If your potential customers are asking questions or leaving comments, you need to answer them. If there are changes being made to your event, you need to share these.
Advertising and marketing online can’t be just ‘good enough’ – if your content isn’t interesting enough to stop people and make them look, then you’re not going to sell your tickets.
You can also use your website, email marketing and paid advertising to spread the word.
Look at relevant websites to your industry and local pages who may be willing to promote your event – the more you’re seen, the more your brand will grow, and the better your ticket sales will be.
